Peter has been tying flies for the last 25 years or so and has been especially interested in the classics since 1995 while living part-time in Québec, Canada. It was while living there that he became interested in competitive fly tying and so after much research and dedication he participated in the World Salmon Fly-tying Championships. It was quite a daunting experience but very rewarding as he took a bronze medal in the hair-wing category with a creative pattern he named "La Promesse" (The Promise).

From that moment on he was hooked on fly-tying competitions and in the following 7 years succeeded in winning no less than 8 Gold medals in the World Championships along with many Silver and Bronze medals too. This in turn led him to be elected to the FQSA Fly Dressers Hall of Fame and from there he appeared on Canadian T.V. to promote these prestigious World Championships.
Closer to home he was also the overall winner of the UK fly-tying league which was run by Fly Fishing & Fly Tying magazine.

In 1999 he organised and directed the "Irish Open Fly tying Championship", which has now grown to be a successful annual event attracting some of the top competitive fly dressers from all over the globe including USA, Europe, Japan and Argentina.

He also has organised Classic Salmon Fly tying Workshops here in Ireland while inviting the renowned American fly tyer, Marvin Nolte, to host the events. One particularly memorable workshop took place during the spring of 2005 when the setting for event was the fabulous Irish Fly fishing & Game Shooting Museum in Attanagh. Spectacular weather along with the quaint museum environment made it a weekend to remember.
Peter's flies have appeared in many books and magazines worldwide and currently he is also involved in writing articles for the new Irish publication, "Irish Angler"http:/www.irishangler.ie


He is now planning a book on "Irish Classic Salmon Flies", which he hopes to have published in small quantities of a Deluxe edition.
