The River Mourne:
The river Mourne is a big, wide, and fast flowing river, which extends from Strabane all the way to its confluence with the river Derg. The salmon fishing can be very good from the end of May onwards and gets an excellent run of sea trout from the end of June. The Mourne is part of the Foyle system and, while it fishes best after a good spate, it is not a spate river in the sense that it only fishes for a short time as the water fines down. After a good two foot flood the river should fish well for the following week or so. Grilse, in particular, will sneak up the river even in very low water. The main tributaries of the Mourne are the Strule, Glenelly, Owenkillew, Camowen, Drumragh, and Derg – all of which have substantial runs of fish. The Derg, Owenkillew and Glenelly can rise very quickly. The Strule holds its water better, but is inclined to be more coloured.
